Riverside County is one of the most rapidly expanding counties in the United States, according to the latest report from the Census Bureau. The analysis included 3,142 counties and 390 metropolitan areas, and Riverside County was placed fifth in terms of population growth. It was the only county in California to make it into the top 10, while Texas had four counties in the growth categories. This growth is equivalent to adding the population of Riverside and Moreno Valley to Riverside County, and Fontana and San Bernardino to San Bernardino County.
The strong business development in Riverside County is one of the main reasons for its population growth. Recently, it was ranked as the third fastest-growing business county in California, with commercial establishments increasing by a healthy 17%. In addition, Riverside County was ranked as the number one fastest-growing county in California, surpassing Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego counties. The population is expected to grow faster than the state average. The Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG) focuses on regional issues that are important for the future of western Riverside County.
By 2048, Riverside and San Bernardino counties are projected to reach a combined population of 5,692,922 residents. The WRCOG is a joint power authority made up of Riverside County, 18 cities, two regional water districts and the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools. Over the past 50 years, some counties have been merged or divided, and the resulting data has been redistributed to other counties.
